Ethiopia to develop major new hydro plant on the Nile

5 April 2011

The project, known as the Grand Millennium Dam, is to be built near the border with Sudan, in the Benishangul-Gumuz region. It is expected to cost approximately $4.76B to build, and would take four years to complete. The Government of Ethiopia will fully fund the project.

Eqypt has recently expressed concern about the construction of dams on the Nile, saying the projects could reduce its share of the rivers waters.
