BC Hydro of Canada has extended its water use planning process for the Jordan river in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, by two months.
Water use plans aim to determine, through the recommendations of the community, how BC Hydro should store and release water from its three reservoirs (Elliot, Jordan Diversion and Bear Creek) that feed a 170MW hydro facility.
The planning committee, consisting of 16 members, has requested more time to collect and review information.
Despite the facility being in operation since 1911, little study information has been collected on the Jordan river system. Some water use planning studies, selected by the Committee to fill those information gaps, have yet to be completed.
The 25km long Jordan river flows southwesterly between the Sooke Hills and the Seymour Mountain range into Vancouver’s Juan De Fuca Strait.
