Fatalities as dam collapses at Siberian gold mine

21 October 2019

As least 15 people have been killed with others missing following the collapse of a dam at a gold mine in Siberia over the weekend.

According to news wire reports, the dam was located near a settlement on the Seiba River in the region of Kransnoyarsk.  So far fifteen people from the settlement have been confirmed dead, with another six missing and others injured.

Reports have suggested that heavy rains in the region may have contributed to the dam collapse, although there will be an official investigation.

The dam was not registered by official bodies, said the Interfax agency.
