Fema awards regional dams, flood emergencies map contract to Amec

7 August 2007

Key work in the mapping update contract includes hydrological and hydraulic floodplain modelling, coastal flooding analysis, community floodplain ordinance reviews and updates, multi-hazard analyses, and post-disaster support.

A key aspect of the work will also be providing digital flood insurance rate maps. In addition, Amec would also be required to help develop disaster recovery maps. Specialised risk management experience the Amec team can provide includes dam breaks, levee overtopping and failure, debris blockage and ice jams, it said in a statement.

Amec said the contract, its largest from Fema, covers the north east US states of Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D, C. The contractor added that the arrangement can potentially be used to support Fema in states outside the contract region.
