FERC approves licence for Beltzville project

24 September 2008

Borough of Lehighton filed the licence application at the end of 2006. It plans to build a plant of 2.6MW installed capacity (1 x 1.7MW, 1 x 0.9MW) on federal land.

The Beltzville project is to be connected to a US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) dam on Pohopoco Creek, upstream of the confluence with Lehigh river in Carbon County.

The USACE reservoir at Beltzville dam is one of eight regional bodies serving multipurpose needs in the Lehigh and Delaware catchments.
