First Nation votes in favour of new dam

1 December 2009

CBC News reported that approximately 96% of voters in a recent referendum held by the First Nation said they wanted the project to be developed.

Plans have been in place for the $1B Pehonan project since 2001. The project, partnered by Brookfield Renewable Power, would involve building a dam on the Saskatchewan River, near the confluence of the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers.

If the project does go ahead, it is expected to take five years to complete.
