Five new hydro plants planned for Indonesia

Power Construction Corporation of China and PT Indonesia Kayan Hydropower Energy have agreed to jointly build five hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 9000MW on the the Kayan River in North Kalimantan.

The plants will require US$17.8 billion in investment, and will create significant opportunities and benefits for the North Kalimantan region.

In 2008, PowerChina studied the hydropower resources of the Kayan River, and completed the the feasibility study and preliminary design of the first hydropower plant in 2013.
