Foreign funds needed to finish plants

14 December 2000

Hidroelectrica, Romania’s state owned hydro power producer, hopes the opening of Romania’s energy market will attract badly needed foreign investment to complete unfinished power plants. The company needs funds to complete 68 hydro power plants which were commissioned before 1989 when the communist regime collapsed. Only 17 of the plants are partially operational. The completion of the projects would raise Hidroelectrica’s regular annual output of 17,000GWh by 15%.
