Fortum to refurbish Höljes dam, Sweden

24 May 2012

The four-year project will help ensure the dam meets the latest safety requirements. Work will include installation of a new spillway gate, widening the spillway chute and strengthening the dam against erosion.

Work will start in early summer 2012 and is scheduled to be finalized during 2015. During the refurbishment period, the main contractor – NCC Construction – will have around 80 people working at the site.

The Höljes project has a total output of 130MW and an annual production of 530GWh. It has a head of 88m. Refurbishment is estimated to have no significant effect on production at the power plant.

The Höljes project is part of Fortum’s annual hydropower investment programme of about EUR100M. Its goal is to increase hydropower production capacity, improve safety and secure good availability. Fortum has about 4700MW of hydropower capacity in the Nordic countries.
