France helps fund Warsak Dam rehab, Pakistan

The French Agency for Development (AFD) has agreed to provide financing for a project to rehabilitate the 243MW Warsak dam project in Pakistan, joining other lenders including the German Development Bank (KfW) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Being implemented by the Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the rehabilitation project is expecting to cost EUR 162 million project. AFD is to provide EUR 41.5 towards this cost, including EUR 1.5 million for hydropower training centre facilities.

An additional EUR 4.5 million grant arranged by AFD and delegated by the European Union / Asia Investment Facility (EU/AIF) will support additional environmental issues such as sedimentation management and community development.
