GE equipment to increase Mottec output, Switzerland

14 October 2016

The Mottec hydropower plant in the Wallis region, Switzerland, is set to see capacity increase from 69MW to 88MW after GE Renewable Energy announced it is to replace the plant’s three horizontal motor-generators.

In a deal signed with Forces Motrices de la Gougra SA (FMG), GE will engineer, manufacture and deliver the new generators to the 57 year old power plant. The equipment will be designed by the GE Small Hydro Center of Excellence before being manufactured in the new Generator Factory, both located in Bilbao, Spain. The new generators will have a capacity of 37 MVA – compared to 29 MVA prior to GE’s project with FMG. The first generator is expected to be commissioned in 2018.
