The company is supplying two 21MW Francis turbines and two vertical, 23.5MVA generators. The turbines will be built at GE Energy’s facility in Norway, while the generators will be made in Brazil. Electrical and mechanical balance of plant services as well as supervision of the equipment’s installation and technical services will also be provided by GE.
The Rio General project is being coordinated through government-owned power company Costa Rican Electricity Institute, and will provide 42MW to the Central American country’s national power grid. The new plant is expected to begin commercial operation in February 2006.
