Generator upgrades for GM Shrum

6 April 2006

Located on the Peace river near Revelstoke in British Columbia, GM Shrum was commissioned in the late 1960s and produces a total of 2730MW with the 10 existing units.

Alstom will increase the output of each of the two generators by 34% from 239MVA to 321MVA and improve the reliability of the machines.

The upgrade work will include supplying new stators and coolers, with Alstom’s Hydro unit in Tracy, Canada, being in charge of manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the project. The first unit is scheduled for delivery in August 2007 and the last for June 2008.
