Ghana Energy Plan includes hydro

17 May 2005

The dams are the Bui, expected to be operational by the year 2012, the Hemang and Juale, planned for 2015 and the Pwalugu, in the Upper East region, proposed for 2020.

These hydro power facilities would give Ghana’s domestic energy generation a significant boost, with Bui dam alone potentially adding 17% to the Akosombo region’s hydroelectric generation.

A hundred copies of the Energy Plan, for 2000-2025, were handed over to the Minister of Energy Professor Mike Ocquaye last week, following the exit of the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Kofi Asante.

It remains to be seen whether the Energy Plan will be still implemented now Asante is no longer in office.
