HCC wins contract on Dagachhu project, Bhutan

The company was awarded the Rs387.5Cr (US$) contract for Lot 1 of the project by Dagachhu Hydro Power Corp. The contract period is 1239 days, said HCC.

Dagachhu is under construction near Dagana and will have an installed capacity of 114MW.

HCC's package of work includes construction of a diversion weir, intake, connection channel, desilter, flushing channel, headrace channel, headrace tunnels, surge shaft, pressure shaft, powerhouse and transformer caverns, control building and tailrace tunnel.

Separately, in April, HCC was awarded a major package of tunnelling and hydro-mechanical works for the 1,200MW Punatsangchhu-I project in Bhutan.

Bhutan and India are jointly developing 10 hydro projects with combined installed capacity of 11.5GW.

HCC also recently completed work on the 1020MW Tala hydro project in the country. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) also worked on the scheme and has a contract on Punatsangchhu-I.

Other hydro development plans for Bhutan are being considered in collaboration by India's Tata Power Trading Co and SN Power, of Norway.
