Idaho hydro under consideration

4 November 2002

GEOSENSE, AN IDAHO-BASED engineering and environmental consulting company, has applied for permission to develop a small, year-round hydroelectric operation in Modoc County, northeastern California, US. The company is proposing to build two small generators near the South Fork of the Pit river, taking advantage of an existing diversion ditch and dam.

The project would divert water from the river through 5km of existing ditch to the West Valley reservoir, which sends water back into the river through a diversion dam. One generator will be placed near the point where the ditch enters the reservoir and the other will be placed near the diversion dam. The maximum output of the proposed generators would be about 2.6MW and would be connected to the power substation in Likely.
