India’s CERC reduces threshold for hydro grid connection

8 September 2010

The threshold for renewable projects was reduced to 50MW from 250MW after feedback from State Transmission Utilities suggested many projects, particularly in Northeastern states, were not able to extend connectivity to their systems, hindering the development of new projects.

Under the new arrangements, projects with installed capacity under 50MW can team up with other projects to seek grid connectivity, provided their combined capacity is 50MW or above, and they agree to undertake operational and commercial responsibilities through a lead generator.

The threshold for thermal power stations remains at 250MW.
