The 400MW project is to have an underground power station, scheduled to come on-line in December 2006.

Meanwhile, the 6MW Kalpong hydroelectric power project, commissioned by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation in September 2001, is generating cheap electricity to meet the Andaman and Nicobar islands’ power requirements, originally supplied by diesel generating sets. Kalpong, the first hydroelectric project in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, uses the flow of the River Kalpong.
