Indian hydro plant cleared

Subject to approval by the cabinet, and at a cost of around US$219M, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) will construct a 45m concrete dam and install four 40MW generators on the Teesta river in Darjeeling district, with work completed in around four years.

Electricity generated by the plant, part of NHPC's X plan, will be supplied to the state of west Bengal.
