Initial work on Diamer-Basha dam to start next year

The Daily Times of Pakistan wrote that Shakeel Durrani, Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) told the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that initial construction work will start in 2012, and that eight contracts had been awarded for the construction of work camps and other facilities to aid in dam construction.

Diamer-Bhasa dam is expected to cost $112B to build, and will involve construction of a 272m high RCC dam to impound a 100km long reservoir.
