Investigation of endurance time method capability in the seismic performance evaluation of concrete arch dams

26 October 2011

In the present paper, the Endurance Time method has been utilized for the first time for evaluating the seismic performance of arch dams. This method is a time-history based analysis procedure that utilizes special intensifying acceleration functions in order to estimate the seismic performance level of structures during a single analysis. As a case study, the DEZ dam-reservoir-foundation system is analyzed using both the Endurance Time and Time-History methods. It is found that the Endurance Time method is able to distinguish various performance levels and determine the need for non-linear analysis during high excitation levels with reasonable accuracy and a minimum time frame.
