Iran blast was dam work, say officials

17 February 2005

Ali Agha Mohammadi, a member of the Supreme National Security Council, told the ISNA students news agency that the explosion was part of routine construction at the site of a dam in Koswar, near Dailam.

Dailam is about 150km from Bushehr, where a controversial nuclear plant is being built with Russian help.

The report briefly caused panic in the US stock market and sent oil prices higher.
