Iran, Syria look to greater dams co-op

5 September 2007

The countries have signed an agreement to establish a joint company to undertake water and dam projects, they said.

While Iran's Energy Minister Parviz Fattah commented favourably on the number of joint water and energy projects underway with Syria he added that there were possibilities for further ventures.

During the talks, the Syrian Irrigation Minister Nader al-Buni added that he hoped there could also be further co-operation in developing both water and electricity infrastructure in his country. Iranian firms are already working on dam projects in Syria, he noted.
