Jamacian renewables policy finalising

24 April 2006

The government had initially planned to begin offering licences for the generation of energy from renewable sources in January, but the process was stalled by the lack of regulatory framework. The programme is aimed at lifting Jamaica's energy supply from renewable sources to 15% of its annual consumption by 2015.

Renewable sources, as classified by the OUR, applies to plants in which the source of primary energy is sunlight, wind, rivers and/or biological cycles.
