Japan and Malaysia look at pumped storage

17 September 2001

TENAGA NASIONAL BHD (TNB) is conducting a feasibility study on the joint development of a pumped storage power plant in Pahang, Malaysia with Tokyo Electric Power Company of Japan.

According to TNB sources, power from a coal-fired power station would be used during off peak periods in the night to pump water to the upper reservoir. The study is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
