Jounama work to re-start

7 August 2006

Work had originally commenced on the project in mid March 2006, but was suspended in June 2006, following the discovery of higher than expected water levels in the Blowering reservoir. The collapse of the initial public offer of Snowy Hydro also meant that the project's viability needed to be reviewed.

Following a review and discussions with the Tumut Shire Council, it has been confirmed that the project will go ahead as planned. Site works will recommence in early 2007 when water levels in the reservoir are expected not to further impact on the project.

The designs for the main plant have been completed and the manufacture of the turbine and generator are progressing in Spain.

Once complete, the new power station will enable renewable energy to be economically recovered from the release of waters into the Blowering reservoir and will be able to generate enough electricity to power over 6000 homes.
