4 September 2002

Tohoku Electric's Kaminojiri No 2 hydroelectric power plant in Japan started operation on 6 June 2002. Located at Nishiaizu-machi in Fukushima Prefecture, the plant utilises the existing Kaminojiri dam and is located adjacent to the first power station.

The newly operating plant has a maximum water intake of 100m3/sec and utilises an effective head of 15.54m to generate a maximum output of 13,500kW.

Tohoku Electric says that Kaminojiri No 2 employs the world's first vertical shaft bulb turbine.
