KSEB revives Indian hydro project

29 April 2005

Environmentalists’ objections concerned the flooding of pristine forest land in the Silent Valley forest – a protected area – due to the reservoir. KSEB points out that only 6.66ha of land in the forest area will be affected due to the reservoir.

Approval to proceed with the project is expected, after mitigating environmental concerns. KSEB proposes to construct a 64.5m high and 275m long dam across the Kunthipuzha, which falls in the buffer zone of the Silent Valley forest.
