Latvia - spillway construction

22 June 2007

The Plavinas plant is the largest hydroelectric station on the Daugava river, consisting of ten units with a combined capacity of 825MW.

The existing spillway capacity of 8640m3/sec is not sufficient to divert the design flood of 12,600m3/sec. Therefore additional discharge capacity of 3960m3/sec is needed.

According to the preliminary studies the reserve spillway will be located on the right bank crossing the existing embankment dam.

The gated spillway consists of an approach channel, the weir structure with four gates, a chute and a stilling basin.

Tenders are invited for the construction of the reserve spillway in accordance with the Tender Documents, including:

* Stage A - investigations (site investigations and hydraulic model tests study).
