Orkney-based Leask Marine have become the latest company to join Pembrokeshire’s Marine Energy Hub, bringing with them over 10 years of experience supporting the marine renewables industry.
The Marine Energy Hub is located in Pembroke Dock in Wales and was set up as a joint initiative between Marine Energy Pembrokeshire, Marine Energy Wales and the Port of Milford Haven. The hub is located on the doorstep of one of the world’s best marine energy resources.
Leask Marine has grown over the last decade, and has experience of working with all major technology developers in Orkney, Scotland.
Douglas Leask, Managing Director said, “We have invested heavily over the past three years and we are delighted with this new and exciting important step forward in our development program. It is important that the sector’s most knowledgeable and experienced supply chain operator is in the right place at the right time, supporting our many existing and new clients.”
Established in 2016, the Marine Energy Hub has garnered interest from many companies, both technology developers and supply chain, and is already nearly at capacity. Leask Marine offers a wide variety of commercial diving, vessel charter and consultancy services that will support the installation of marine renewable energy devices in Welsh waters.
Welcoming the news Economy Secretary Ken Skates said: “The Marine Energy Hub is making quite an impact and attracting a cluster of businesses and organisations that can help drive forward this exciting sector in Wales. Leask Marine is a welcome addition with a wealth of experience having supported many of the world’s leading marine energy developers.”
David Jones, Project Director of Marine Energy Wales added, “An experienced supply chain is essential for the success of the industry and will be crucial in lowering the cost of energy. Leask Marine bring a huge amount of experience and this is further proof that real momentum is gathering in Wales as technology developers are attracted by the €100.4 million EU structural funding, our significant natural resources, proximity to grid and supply chain capability.”
