31 May 2006

The project, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttaranchal on Mandakini river, a tributary of the Ganga, is valued at US$107.9M and will be executed by L&T on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis – L&T will develop, finance, construct, commission and operate the power plant for a concession period of 45 years.

The project involves design and construction of:

• A 20m high and 80m long barrage.

• 12km long headrace tunnel.

• Surface power house.

• Substation.

• A 12km long and 132kV transmission line.

The detailed project report is under preparation and the Project Development and Implementation Agreement will be signed with the government of Uttaranchal for successful implementation of the project.

Though L&T has engineered and constructed many power, infrastructure and industrial projects and build operate and transfer (BOT) variants, this will be the company's maiden hydroelectric project via the Public Private Partnership model.
