Micro hydro sites identified in Uganda

16 August 2006

The project was identified during a one-week fact finding mission by a Japanese delegation earlier this month. The team, headed by Wasswa Birigwa, Uganda's envoy to Japan, visited sites in Kapchorwa and Mbale, as well as Mukono.

Each of the five projects will cost around US$100,000, 90% of which will be covered by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), according to local media.

The project is being funded by UNIDO under its 'grass roots' programme and is part of the Ugandan government's target to generate more power for rural communities.
