Mott Macdonald expands Indian energy business

4 April 2002

Indian power specialist Premier Energy Technology has joined with Mott MacDonald to form Premier Mott MacDonald - a move that expands Mott MacDonald's business in India's power market, and builds on more than a decade of work together, including key projects such as the rehabilitation of Hirakud hydro power development.

Premier specialises in both hydro and thermal power generation plus rehabilitation, reduction of transmission and distribution losses and improvement of distribution management. The company was founded in 1999 under the leadership of AK Sah, former chairman of India's National Thermal Power Corporation and Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board, who now becomes chairman of Delhi-based Premier Mott MacDonald.

Forming the new company complements Mott MacDonald's major expansion in India in September 2001 when it established Dalal Mott MacDonald, an 800 strong management and engineering consultancy specialising in infrastructure, industry and social sector development.
