Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) is to work on hydropower schemes in Bhutan and India after being awarded two new contracts valued at Rs 623 crore (US$93 million).
The company is to build the 118MW Nikachhu Hydropower Project in the Trongsa district of Bhutan in a Rs 456 crore ($68 million) contract awarded by Tangsibji Hydro Energy Ltd, while also building a 1500m double lane tunnel to act as the access road for the 1856MW Sawalkote Hydroelectric Power Project in Jammu & Kashmir, India, after winning a Rs 167 crore contract ($24 million) from JKSPDC.
The Bhutan project is the second hydroelectric power project awarded to HCC on EPC basis and fifth project in the country. Recently, the company completed the 124MW Dagachhu hydroelectric power project on EPC basis in the Dagana district of Bhutan, and has also been associated with construction of the 60MW Kiruchu, 1020MW Tala, 126MW Dagachhu and the 1200MW Punatsangchhu-I hydropower projects.
At the Indian project, HCC will be responsible for the investigation, design and construction of the tunnel over a 30 month period.
