New hydro planned for the Philippines

Four new hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 1212MW could be built in the Philippines under plans unveiled by San Lorenzo Ruiz Builders and Developers Group Inc. (SLRB).

According to local media, SLRB is looking to build the 500MW Wawa project in Rodriguez, Rizal; the 312MW Bolusao River hydropower project in Eastern Samar; and the 160MW Davao and 240MW Chico River hydropower projects in Northern Luzon.

Groundbreaking on the Bolusao River project is being planned for this year, SLRB has said, with all four projects expected to begin operations within four years if the company's plans go ahead. The Bolusao project will involve two plants ­ a 12MW run-of-river facility and a 300MW pumped storage plant.

Banco de Oro Capital and Investment Corp have been engages as financial advisors for the planned projects.
