Nieszawa dam fails funding test

1 February 2003

POLAND HAS NOT ALLOCATED any funds to build the proposed Nieszawa dam in the Lower Vistula region. The decision was applauded by the conservationist group the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which has been campaigning against the project for the last three years.

A study published by WWF said the new dam would not be the best technical solution to address problems caused by the aging of the existing Wloclawek dam. Moreover, the study says the new dam was expected to negatively affect the sustainable development of the whole Vistula river valley.
