Nordic funding for Senegalese dam study

15 October 2004

The US$1.2M contract was awarded by the Senegal ministry of water and is to include feasibility studies and environmental impact assessments to determine the most suitable designs and project locations for dams as well as cost-benefit analyses of the construction work. A number of dams are to be built in drainage basins near Dakar and Thies with the main function of storing water.

Work is also to include the preparation of design and tenders for dams built in the 1990s, which are now in need of rehabilitation. Funding over the next four years is to be provided by the Nordic Development Fund.
