Norplan to work on Kakono project, Tanzania

Norplan, on behalf of Multiconsult AS, has been awarded a large contract for the Feasibility and ESIA Studies for Kakono Hydropower and Transmission Line Project in Tanzania.

The contract entails the feasibility study of a new power plant and transmission line in Kagera River in Tanzania. The assignment will be implemented in cooperation with Norplan`s local partner company Norplan Tanzania and JØSOK Prosjekt AS from Norway.

The planned installed capacity of the plant is 53MW and the services will involve full Feasibility and Environment and Social Impact Assessment studies of both the power plant and the transmission lines. With a value of around US$4.8M, the study is scheduled for completion in 2014.

The study will be financed by Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd. (TANESCO) through a grant from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
