Plans unveiled for US$43B North Sea renewable energy grid

8 January 2010

Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland and the UK have all signed up to develop the grid, which would increase energy security in the region and help the EU meet its renewable energy target for 2020.

A feasibility plan for the network – expected to take 10 years to develop – will be unveiled later this year, following a February meeting amongst the nine nations.
