Power losses in Uganda as intake gates blocked at major hydro plants

14 April 2020

Uganda lost power generation nationwide today after weeds blocked intake gates at the Nalubaale, Kiira and Bujagali hydropower projects causing them to trip, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has confirmed on its Facebook page.

A water weed island migrated last night clogging the gates, the Ministry said. UEGCL and UETCL are working to resolve the problem at the projects.

Power is expected to be restored via the Isimba and Namanve projects.
