Power Machines to equip Nizhne-Bureyskaya project, Russia

14 November 2013

Power Machines is to supply four 80MW hydropower units to the Nizhne-Bureyskaya hydropower project as part of a contract signed with Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP OJSC (a subsidiary of RusHydro JSC).

The company is to design, manufacture, supply and install four sets of hydropower units each comprising an adjustable-blade turbine complete with automated control system, a hydrogenerator with excitation system as well as auxiliary equipment to the customer.

The commissioning of the Nizhne-Bureyskaya units is scheduled for 2015 to 2016. The plant's hydroturbines will have environmentally-friendly design: the impeller cavity where the blade turning mechanism is located will not be filled with oil which eliminates the possibility of oil leakage into the water.

Nizhne-Bureyskaya is a compensating reservoir of Bureyskaya hydropower plant and the second plant of the Bureyskiy hydropower facility. The plant has a rated capacity of 320MW. Its average annual output is 1650MkWh.

In addition to power generation, another important function of the Nizhne-Bureyskaya project is to level irregular discharges from Bureyskaya HPP during the day, as well as the prevention of flooding.

Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP has been under construction since 2010 and the plant's erection is one of the priority projects of RusHydro JSC Investment Program.
