27 August 2014

Power Machines OJSC has won a contract to manufacture and supply a hydro turbine impeller for the second hydropower unit of Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP in Kazakhstan, increasing capacity at the project by 10MW.

Under the terms of the contract with AES Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP PLC (Kazakhstan), Power Machines OJSC is to manufacture and supply a hydro turbine impeller completed with mounting attachments.

As a result of impeller replacement, capacity of the second hydropower unit will increase by 10 MW to reach 95 MW. The hydro turbine efficiency is also expected to grow from 93.0% to 96.1%.

Signing of the contract continues the successful cooperation between Power Machines OJSC and AES Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP PLC. Currently, the St. Petersburg Power Engineering Concern is completing manufacture of a hydro turbine impeller for the hydropower unit under the station number 3 of Kazakhstan's HPP, and will subsequently supervise its installation.

Ust-Kamenogorskaya is located on the Irtysh River, and is the middle stage of the Irtysh Hydraulic Power System, with Bukhtarminskaya and Shulbinskaya projects located upstream and downstream, respectively. Ust-Kamenogorskaya, commissioned in the mid-1950s, accommodates four hydropower units, outfitted with equipment manufactured by Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Electrosila, currently operated by Power Machines OJS
