A spokesman for the Russian company said that the US$40M contract to supply the plant, which is under construction in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam, had been signed in the city of Da Nang. It is the company's second Vietnamese contract.
Power Machines (Silovye Mashiny) is working on the project in cooperation with a Japanese company, Sumitomo, which was selected as the equipment contractor for the power plant.
The construction of the A Vuong hydro power plant began in August 2003 and is scheduled to finish in 2008. The total power output of the turbines is 210MW and the plant is designed to produce up to 815MkWh/yr.
Electricity of Vietnam, the national generator, has said the cost of the A Vuong will be US$240M, with 25% of financing coming from loans extended by the Japanese government.
Power Machines, as a sub-contractor in cooperation with the two Japanese companies Mitsubishi and Sumitomo, had previously signed a contract to supply turbines for the Buon Kuop hydro power plant in Vietnam.
