Power plans for
Hebgen dam

29 April 2005

The application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proposes to use a single turbine to produce about 6.7MW of power. The project also would need a 15km underground transmission line connecting the dam with an existing transmission line used by Fall river Rural Electric Cooperative to supply electricity to the West Yellowstone area. The dam and related facilities are owned by PPL Montana.

A decision by the FERC on the request is expected by April 2006. The project also must be approved by the US Forest Service, which administers the surrounding Gallatin National Forest.
