Poyry wins contract to plan safety, rehab of 32 dams in Sri Lanka

The approximately Euro4.5M (US$6.5M) contract was awarded by the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Service. The project is supported by the World Bank.

Dams in the consultancy contract range in size and age from small ancient embankments to large structures built for recent multi-purpose schemes. The structures are used for irrigation mainly but some also serve water supply, flood control and hydro power.

Study and design work is to be completed by 2012 by when procurement for selected projects is also to be underway. Poyry’s contract includes an option to supervise the works.
