Queen’s award winner

15 June 2001

UK, Southampton-based company Fish Guidance Systems (FGS) has been named a winner in the 2001 Queen’s Award for Enterprise competition.

A small, research and development based company, FGS has developed solutions to the problems of fish kills in the winter intakes of thermal and hydroelectric power stations, as well as other industrial and domestic water supply intakes.

The FGS products create an intense underwater sound field that prevents fish from entering the danger area.

The noise is harmless to fish and avoids the need for fine-mesh steel screens previously used at some intakes.
