RusHydro starts work on new hydro plant

The ceremonial laying of the the first cubic meter of concrete for the RUR 31,318M project was held in a ceremony on Friday, attended by Russian Federation Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, Governor of the Amur Region Oleg Kozhemyako, JSC RusHydro's Chairman of the Management Board Evgeny Dod and directors of various energy and infrastructure companies.

The Nizhne-Bureyskaya plant is part of the Unified Bureya Energy Complex in the Amur Region and will become the counter-regulator of the Bureya project, which was commissioned at full capacity in 2009. Commissioning of the first phase (two hydro units with a capacity of 80MW each) is scheduled for 2014, the second phase for 2015, with the power plant expected to reach full project capacity in 2016.

Completion of the Bureya energy complex and the launch of the Nizhne-Bureyskaya plant will help improve the reliability of the regions power system, prevent flooding in settlements downstream of the Bureya plant and protect the shores of the Bureya and Amur Rivers.
