Sacyr, through its subsidiary Sacyr Construcción, is to build two hydroelectric plants in Peru at a cost of US£77.9M, the company's first venture in the country.
The company was awarded an EPC contract by Generación Andina for the construction of the El Carmen project in Huánuco and 8 de Agosto project in Humalíes province, along with a transmission line to Tingo María.
The 8 de Agosto hydroelectric plant has a gross head of 145m and will exploit a flow of 18m3/sec via a surface plant to generate 19.83MW and produce 141GWh of gross energy per year. The work to be carried out by Sacyr at this plant includes construction of the 3243m conduction system in GRP pipes, an 897.6m section of tunnel, the diversion dam with mobile barrage and drain gate, among others.
The El Carmen hydroelectric plant will exploit a gross flow of 4.5m3/sec via a surface plant to generate 8.6MW and produce 52.3GWh of gross energy per year.
This contract represents a further step forward for Sacyr in its internationalization strategy, consolidating the company's presence in South America and its rapidly developing markets. In 2013, Sacyr also commenced operations in Qatar, India and Mozambique.
