San Roque update

4 September 2002

The Philippine government is considering buying out the US$1.2B San Roque hydro power complex project in Pangasinan. The move is being considered to protect consumers from paying high electricity rates.

Based on the recommendations of the interagency committee headed by the Department of Finance, the cost of the facility being bought out by the government before its scheduled completion in 2004 would be lower than the cost of keeping it operational.
