Security fears put halt to work on Cetin project, Turkey

5 February 2016

Statkraft has suspended development of the 517MW Cetin hydropower project in Turkey over security concerns, Reuters has reported.

The utility's Chief Executive, Christian Rynning-Toennesen, told Reuters that work was suspended due to the end to the ceasefire between the PKK and the Turkish authorities, which has resulted in armed incidents in the region, near the project site.

The project, which would be the utility's largest outside Norway if completed, is being developed on the Botan River, a tributary of the Tigris River.
